Hello,

I received a contract to review and I found this interesting. It says:

"With a view to Party B's safety, Party B agrees to inform Party A in advance of his whereabouts whenever Party B stays outside the apartment overnight or travels beyond the urban area of (city). Party B shall go traveling with a legally set Chinese travel agency which is approved by the Tourism Bureau of P.R.C when he or she wants to travel, otherwise, party Be shall be full responsible for any consequences cause by that."

I have not found anything similar to this, and I'm wondering if this is a standard part of contract in China. I understand that its a strict country, but I want to know that this school is inserting more control than allowed.

Thanks for your help in advance.

It doesn't say that you can't travel on your own, it just says that you'll have to accept full responsibility for any consequences that may occur. They're just covering their ass.

I've never read a reference to a travel bureau in any contract, but it sounds like it could be a good idea for some teachers.

It's a "nothing clause". How could this be legal or enforceable in any way? If you want to work at this school either accept it or cross it out and initial it before you sign OR ask the school for a better explanation.

BUT it's really nothing to worry about.

If you need a licensed travel agent use www.elong.net or go to any IATA office.

Trust me, there are bigger things to worry about when living and working in China.
