I've peeked in a few shops but I thought I'd ask for a few tips. I haven't got a lot of money, so I'm not talking about malls and designer fashions. I want to know where I can get the most style for the least money.

Find out where your weekly neighborhood Bazaar (Pazar) is happening. You can find everything including clothing -name brands and all- on the cheap. Some fake, some original, but all much cheaper than the shops. You can find some great deals, but look everything over because some things will fall apart after first wear.

If you are anywhere near Hasan Paşa on the Asian side, I recommend the Tuesday Bazaar (Salı Pazarı). It's huge and you really can find just about anything there. Gap jeans, H&M dresses, on and on... Happy Shopping:)

�sk�dar's pazar on Fridays rocks for inexpensive, decent quality basics. Can't speak about men's clothes (maybe we need a separate topic for that) but I just found some good stuff there a couple of weeks ago. It's also right in the center and easy to find.

Beşiktaş' 5 and 10 lira shops are also quite good for some things. There's one in the mall.

I second the bazaar in Uskudar. Not only are prices good, I've found some fashionable looking "irregulars" there and in the basement stores in the same area. The fish looks and smells fresh. Besides, it's just fun mingling in the crowds.

Quality of produce on the street is better and sometimes cheaper than shopping at Migros, for example. Has anyone here tried the "black" tomatoes this year? Absolutely delicious, but look more like the color of aubergine.

In terms of supermarkets, I've compared prices and have found that BIM is cheapest on canned and dried goods and Cagri has affordable shampoos, toothpaste, bath soap, so wandering the streets and picking things up as I love along has become my Saturday morning entertainment!

Well not sure if your talking about clothes for a male or female but I will say I don't buy my clothing stuff from the pazar. It just doesn't fit right and doesn't really have any real quality after washing it once or twice. Also there are the issues with sizes. If you are over 5 5in or wear a size bigger than a 12 American for Ladies.... very hard to find anything to fit well at the pazar. Exceptions.... socks, underwear, tights.

In terms of food, I LOVE the pazar for fruit, veggies, eggs and cheese. The pazar is also a fun place to shop for kitchen basics. I just don't like the crowds and the need to bargain. What ever floats your boat.

Alternatives for clothes shopping (in the mall) C & A (cheap, good quality and decent size selections), LCW ( inexpensive, good quality , great for basic staples like t shirts, shorts, business causal wear). I find these are two great options for males and females in terms of clothing. I don't mind shopping early morning in the mall and really appreciate that prices are listed and I don't get the "yabanci fiyat".


Turkey is a great place you just have to learn how to maneuver through it.
