I voted NO.
Its the time element. I had a job before that involved an hours drive each way and I wouldnt want to do the same again. Its just so much time, and while it may be OK short term, long term it becomes a real bind.
The only way I would consider it is if it was a dream job...not just a good one. And then I would only accept it with a view to moving closer asap. |

Would you take a job, while everything else was really good (including salary, quality of teaching materials, motivated students, etc.), if you needed to commute 1 hour and 20 minutes to and from work each day (total of 2 hours and 40 minutes)?
Suffering from indecision at the moment. I'd like to hear your thoughts or experiences.
Thanks. |
Sure, and I have commuted up to 3 hours each way in the past. Now I commute 80 minutes each way on Tuesdays, to a remote campus. The commute itself does not have to be a drag, as others have suggested. But it's more of a drag not to work, and sponge off of others. |
