From what I have gathered from various posts on Daves ESL, the Commercial Bank of China is the best for us English teachers. Is this correct?

I'm done with Bank of China and they're slow, clunky, limited service.

how did you gather that? a few posts on this site? what you read here is not representative of most esl teachers, just the few that browse this site regularly.

there is no "best" bank. you had bad experiences with one or two branches of one bank, others will be happy with it. same in any country. most of the time people don't even set foot in a bank any longer, your salary gets deposited, and you do your banking via ATM. only time i even go inside a branch anymore is to wire money home, and i only need to do that once a year. try another bank. CCB works for me.

I'm pleased with the services at Merchant's Bank of China and HSBC.

When I first arrived here I opened up an account through Agricultural Bank of China, only because they also offered Western Union. What a mistake that was! Horrible service all around and I quickly left.

Could anyone say what is better about Merchants Bank of China compared to Commercial Bank of China (or vice versa)?

I see more ICBC banks around. So, if you want accessibility, I would go with them.

I recommend China Constuction Bank for personal banking.... but as for your salary, that may depend on your school.

Don't tell 7969, but I agree with her/him.

Different branches and cities will have different levels of service.

I use China Post during the least busiest time of the day.

What about depositing money? Is it normal to charge a fee? If you go to an ATM machine after hours, can you expect to be charged at any bank? I can understand withdrawals but I was surprised when I deposited money into one bank.
