|
|
I am one of several hundred teachers at the HCT who has just had his/her end of service pay greatly reduced with out any notice or fair reason.
Although the semester is not yet over, we were all told this morning to go home. We were told that the provost is forcing us to take vacation until the end of our contract.
This will effectively take 7 thousand dirhams out of my pocket.
This is a clear breach of contract but they seem not to care at all.
Teachers should be careful when considering the Higher College of Technology for employment. They do not abide by their contracts!
We are considering ligation. |

Such an action is senseless in light of the fact that it's unfair and in light of HCT's desperation to retain or recruit teachers. As I stated before, they continue to dig their hole deeper and deeper and deeper...
Who wouldn't want to work at HCT?????
Please interview me.
Please hire me.
Please stab me in the eye with a hot poker.
I've got to finalize the summary of my experience there and post it...soon. |

Are there that many resigning or not being offered another contract at the end of the semester? |

You need to consult a lawyer now to see if they can do this. I suspect that putting you all on "vacation status" may trigger something. Had you all resigned? Were any of you "not renewed?" I guess what I'm wondering is whether they have done this to everyone who is leaving.
I'm wondering if putting you on "vacation," in effect, means that you didn't complete your last contract year for its gratuity? It would be just like these clowns to think of this underhanded way to save part of the gratuity.
Are you all in one college or is this system wide?

Hey VS,
If all the teachers are on vacation, who is teaching the students? This type of action seems desperate on HCT's part. But perhaps desperate times call for desperate actions. Nonetheless, very under-handed toward teachers! |

It is system wide and not just teachers. Basically anyone who is leaving. They don't seem to be discriminating. Everyone who is leaving must take their vacation time immediately and will therefore forfeit a least a weeks pay!
Hopefully the lawyers will have a positive impact. |

HCT would never make that move unless it had been approved by their legal advisors who perhaps teamed up to make sure teachers don't find a single tiny tiny hole in that forcible vacation decision. Legation is a waste of effort, time and MORE MONEY. |

It's pretty paradoxical isn't it?There was CERT a couple of years ago having to drag people in off the street to work for them(some of them great teachers like Scottheozzy) ....and now the bangle's on the other wrist with the HCT'ers the poor relations.I think H.E should be informed. He does daily majlis'(not Monday's)at his Palace from 4p.m (bring something written),first rdbt after the intercon going out of town. This looks like Tubby 's hand along with his henchman the "brown nose'reindeer. |

Our lawyer says we definitely do have a case. They made the mistake of getting us to "sign off" on a document in February which clearly states our accrued leave. This leave is due to us and no organization (federal or otherwise) has the right to suddenly force vacation time. The lawyer says that people like us usually win.
We will see them in court! |

News!
The provost has changed his mind. We are no longer being forced to take vacation. We will all be receiving 100% of the money owed to us.
Big thanks to Daves Cafe for giving us a voice! |

Good News!!
I suspect "your" lawyers talked to "their" lawyers and it was decided that it was cheaper for them to do it all by the contract provisions rather than to slog it all through the courts.

This is all...very strange. Because one thing they always used to say about HCT--no matter how bizarrely bad the supervisors were, HCT never fiddled with your pay. Now all bets are off in future. |
