So, I'm changing jobs (end of contract and all), and my FEC expires in Sept, so my current work was quite happy to extend my RP til Sept as well (ok I paid for it, but that's fair).

Now, after the new job person has asked if I can extend that RP, she wants me to get the FEC cancelled.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Also, I've been asked to 'draft a letter' to/for my new employer to do something with visas... I'm getting confused!

Edit: also changing provinces - from Jiangxi to Zhejiang.

Basically, your current employer sponsored you for the FEC and will ask for it back, if they even gave it to you, and cancel it.

Your new school will sponsor you for a new FEC, but will need a copy of the 1st, so make/scan a copy.

Don't I need a valid FEC to have my RP still valid??

Uhhhh, since you needed the FEC to obtain the resident permit, it's easy to deduce that it's contingent.

Yes, you do.

Besides. An FEC is NOT transferable from one province to another.

In any event, an employer has every right to cancel your credentials if you no longer work for them.

The only time my FEC leaves the drawer is when it's time to renew it. Other than a formality (I am an Expert employed at X institution) it serves no practical use these days.

So, my question becomes - is it ok to have my RP without my FEC?? (yeah, I know they're different, but still....)

Schools like to see your old FEC scan for comfort.
Some provinces can renew a Residence Permit, but others
require that a z-visa (the entry permit) be in your passport.
Some provinces can magically produce a RP without a Z.
Basically, whatever they are asking for is what you need.

Your FEC is useless for a new province; scan and return. Your RP is still valid. You'll need the release form from your old employer to renew your RP in Sept. The new employer will obtain the new FEC.
