that's what the HR guy, John, at AYC says. Then their visa department will do the rest.

Is this a normal manner of employment in Thailand?

Has anyone ever worked for or had additional contact with AYC?

Depending on where YOU are coming FROM it is often easier to change a tourist visa (60 day type) into a non-"B" while you are in Thailand and before you start work (done in a day at immigration).

You need 21 days remaining on your visa or they won't allow the change (hence the suggestion that you obtain a 60 day visa before you come).

It is possible to do it on a 30 day visa waiver entry stamp but it is RUSHED (they need to get a letter from the local education office before they can process you) so it not advisable (any delay will result in not getting it changed and necessitating a border run to get a new visa.

Yes, tourist visas are easy to get from your nearest Thai consulate (they have several in the states (google to find the nearest one to you)).
