Greetings and salutations,
I am currently enrolled with Teaching House Boston's CELTA program for October and am planning on flying out to Vietnam some time between November and February depending on various financial and personal variables.
Mostly I am curious about the need for an actual physical CELTA certificate when trying to find a job in VN. I've been told that I will receive a 'Course Report' within a week of completing the course, but not the certificate until 2-3 months after the course. Will arriving without this certificate affect my eligibility for qualified positions in-country? |

Hi manxomejoe,
It shouldn't effect your employment prospects. I got my job just with just the 'Course Report' (my CELTA Certificate wasn't issued until a few weeks after the interview) and schools that know their business understand the process.
Good luck and welcome to Daves. |

I think they need it for the work permit. But in my experience, there doesn't seem to be any rush in getting a work permit anyway. |

Once you've got the certificate issued it's probably going to be a good idea to get it sent over.
Don't forget to have a Criminal Record check done in the US. I hear they're a bit tricky for US citizens to get from the US embassy in Hanoi. |

Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like I'll be headed out in March, shiny CELTA certificate pasted to my forehead. |
