I once worked with a guy whose family name was Head.
I didnt know his parents, but they decided that Richard would be a nice name for their first born son, and soon cut that down to Dick.
Calling him at home once I aksed for 'Dickhead' and his mother said "He is in the garden, l'll just get him.
Has anybody else known people whose parents have inflicted preposterous names on them? |

I had a great-uncle named Pete Maas (pronounced moss.) The first time my younger cousin heard mention of his name at a family dinner, she snorted milk through her nose.
I grew up in Midwest USA where girls' basketball was (still is) an extremely popular high school sport. During state tournaments at that time, there was a girl on one of the teams named Fonda Dcks. First round of play-offs one of the radio sports announcers made an aside comment to the effect of What were her parents thinking of? when he read the starting line-ups.
A student where I teach goes by the name of Lady. Her whole name is Lady Diana Garcia Lopez. There's another student named Freddy Mis May (Mayan names pronounced very close to miss my.) The first time I took attendance when he was in my class, I read off the names the way they were printed on my official class list with last names first: Miss My Freddy. (I could've called him Miss Freddy, I suppose.) He raised his hand and said, "Present," without batting an eye. |

Then there is "Ima Hogg."(1882-1975) Daughter of Fmr. Texas Governor Stephen Hogg. Contrary to popular belief she did NOT have a sister names Ura.
Can you imagine going through school with a name Ima Hogg?

A friend once told me she knew of a girl by the last name of Lear whose (very immature) parents thought it would be 'cute' to name her Chrystal Shandle. |
