|
|
Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding apostilles for degrees. From what I've read in this forum, degrees must have an apostille in order to get a work visa. However, I am a dual US/Mexican citizen, which means I can already legally work in Mexico. Do I still need to get an apostille for my degree? Will employers request to see the original diploma with an apostille?
Thanks! |

Your nationality is less important than where the degree was issued. If it or any other paperwork was issued in Mexico, then no apostille needed. If it originates from outside Mexico, then it does need it.
Since you are Mexican, you don't need a work visa so the issue is moot anyway. No trips to immigration. |

I got my B.A. from the U.S., which is why I asked. From your reply I understand the apostille is only necessary because of immigration? So I shouldn't worry about getting it, then.
Thank you so much for answering my questions! |

Happy to help.
Just after I posted, I wondered if as a Mexican you would need that degree for any other paperwork you plan to file for here, such as your RFC, voter card, tax ID, or IMSS. I don't think so, but I wonder if it might be a good idea to get the apostille anyway in case you do, even if only an employer wants a copy. Someone else here might know about this. |

It depends on where you got your degree. I am also a Mexican citizen, but went to college in Chicago, so I had to have my diploma apostilled. I have had places ask for it, and ask to see the apostille, so yes, I would say you do. Its not just for immigration. If you want to have it validated by the SEP you also must have it apostilled, as well as translated. |

You dont need it for any of that stuff, but you do if you want to get a Cedula Profesional, and many employers will ask for it, some dont care about the apostille, but some do. It isnt a big deal to get, so I would do it, just to be on the safe side. |
