By slippery eels, I mean C and the Omani who is probably the sponsor - S. Where is he?

I can't believe this is still going on.

That would be great - after watching them manouvre in CfBT, I've been waiting for C and S to get their comeuppance.

It's been a long time coming.

Don't know if the centre is still going?

Fairly certain gary is still in jail in Nizwa for defaulting on debts and drunken and aggressive behaviour.

I wonder if they've moved again and will reappear in Adam or some other unlucky place.

I worked for the CFBT in Oman and Qatar and C was always incommunicado. They held my passport illegally for 3 months in Oman. I was told that my visa could not be issued when in fact it had been, dismissed on the grounds that 'someone' did not want me there and transferred to Doha. The teachers were in constant touch with HQ in Reading and were completely ignored. Eventually he and B, the Director were dismissed from the Muscat Office on corruption charges.

C was oscillating between Muscat and another CFBT teacher training contract in Doha. His buddy, another escapee from KSA was then given the lucrative post as manager. His poorly qualified wife was a trainer. One teacher was fired with 3 weeks notice because he walked into a classroom of female students without knocking. He was promised work in Muscat by the CFBT and given 3 weeks to leave with his pregnant wife and toddler. Having driven through KSA he arrived in Muscat to find virtually no work.

Re the teacher training programme in Doha, we were teaching in the Ministry building in meeting rooms/broom cupboards/corridors because there were no classrooms. I was asked to train Primary school English teachers some of whom could hardly speak English. There was no syllabus or resources. Manager said,"Do what you like."

The CFBT rep came out from London on a snoop but took no action. Muscat Director boasted that he had procured the contract and it was 'mission impossible'. It was being 'moderated' by the University of Southampton.

CFBT - you gotta love 'em.

From what I saw last night, the place looks like it is prospering, new signage livery outside that looked rather fancy.

Far from winding down, it seems to be prospering well...go figure?!

I suspect the signage is ordered, delivered but not yet paid for. Keep us informed please.

I remember the Qatar contract - rumours of CfBT managers coming from Oman and turning up to ministry meetings reeking of booze etc. Friends being appointed to highly paid jobs etc. It was a contract they threw away.

The suits from the main office visited but didn't speak to any of the teachers. They then installed a 'consultant' who flew in every month but did nothing to improve things.

Tim was their best hope but they moved him on.

CfBT are a 'charity' that makes a profit - they need to be investigated. They may well have a good name in some other parts of the world, but they let the staff in Oman down badly.

When I was there, it seemed to be very high salaries and perks for a few, lots of international travel for the home office staff and absolutely no support or concern for the non promoted teaching staff.

No, all the managers at the time were from England - Tim came from (I think) Oxford.
