My school has decided to open 3 kindergarten classes with an FE in each class...8 hours a day Monday to Friday. Now...the school is based in Guangdong...what salary should they offer do you think? I am fairly familiar with what an oral English teacher should net for a standard 16-24 hour contract...but a 40-hour kindergarten job will probably be a bit more.
I am completely ignorant of the pay scale...any serious advice appreciated.

For what it's worth:-
I get 6,200 RMB for 100 hours per month with additional hours paid at 80 RMB. If I were working a 40 hour week, I would be earning 11,000 RMB per month. Actually, I'd want more because I suspect teaching kindergarten would be more demanding than teaching high school.
BUT I have seen "40 hour" kindergarten positions advertised offering a salary of 8,000 RMB, plus accommodation, airfare, etc.

Two years ago, a Western guy and his Chinese wife were doing kindergarten work together - he instructing English, she as an assistant and nurse.
He made RMB 8000 a month, teaching five hours a day, in different classes (a period never exceeds 30 minutes). He worked 6 days a week. That's 30 hours.
I don't know how you could possible be teaching 40 hours... the kids have a short attention span... you would have to go to a hell of a lot of classes a day.
Myself taught at another kindergarten; 16 periods a week, that's eight hours, making RMB 3700 (including airfare, which I had nbegotiated to be prorated). My salary was paid for twelve months, although I was on holiday from mid-June through end of July.
Most kindergartens have far shorter holiday seasons! |

At least you won't be having to teach them English 8 hours a day. It sounds like a normal kindergarten position one would find back home. Interacting with the children with the added language component.
I would suggest between 80rmb to 100rmb an hour. I was paid 100rmb an hour in a kindergarten here in Guangdong. I lasted one month, the pressure on me to perform was too great. It was one of those kindergartens for the rich kids. They paid 1400rmb a month to attend this souped up day care centre. Good luck with the enterprise it's heartening to hear that yoou will be involved in the daily stuff like dressing the children and eating wih them. A much more natural way for them to pick up the language.

I'm a full-time kindergarten teacher. I'm the FE in the class from 8 to 5. I work 2.5 hours a day. That's ENglish class time. Thre's so much other stuff, play time, bath room, meals times, naptime, arts, crafts, science. You won't be teaching 40 hours a week.
FInd out the schedule and see how many hours a day you will work.
PM me if you have questions. |

For 40 hrs a week I would ask for at leat 10-15000. Then again EF offers 4500 for the same kind of hours. The B*astards. Just make sure they provide housing, Z visas ect... |
