I haven't seen any chatter lately about the English Language Fellow program. We're gearing up for the orientation in DC in a couple weeks. Anyone out there entering the program this year?

Just finished. Did you join the ELF Yahoo group? Likely more response there. |

Oh, yes, I was just curious who here might be going, too.
Hope you had a great experience! |

Looks like a very cool program. Question for you - do you see it as a program for folks who are 'just' ESL teachers, or as something that would be good for those with broader interests (international development or possibly international business)? |

Since I haven't started it yet and I don't have those kinds of interests, I can't really say. I think of it as the Peace Corp for English teachers but that's just my take. A broader interest might be better served with a Fullbright which is similar in some ways. |

I would say no as well. You can look at project descriptions at elf.georgetown.edu
Peace Corps volunteers work at the high school level generally and ELFs at the university level. |

I am, indeed, an ELF. Or, I should say, I am half-elven, born from a union among the High Elves and the Edain during the final part of the First Age. Alas, just one problem. I must choose my fate: to be counted as Elven, free to dwell in the blessed Undying Lands for as long as Arda endures, or to be counted among the humans, whose spirits may be, through death, freed to enter the unknown beyond Arda. |

Anyone have any insight into what their interview process is like? |

Sure, what do you want to know? The first interview with someone from Georgetown is very general and lowkey. It's partly to find out what your preferences are and to see if you understand what you're getting yourself into. |

I'm happy to provide info too, heading to my second assignment, Insha Allah. I prefer PMs. |

Thanks! So, the first interview is low-key. How many interviews are there total? Are they required to be in-person? What should one expect after the first, more informal interview? Thanks for the info! Definitely unsure how the selection process works! |

Hello ELFs and prospective ELFS,
So...today, 5 months after I first applied, I finally got an email request for an interview from the English Language Fellow program (ELF Georgetown / State Department) and guess where it was? It had somehow been automatically filed into my junk email box! Just thought I would let people know in case this might happen to them too. Prospective ELFs:
****Check your junk email now!***
Luckily it's only been 2 days since it was sent so hopefully it's not too late and they still want to interview me.
Are there any successful ELFs out there who would like to share thoughts on the interview process? What will they ask me? Anything I should know? I have several years of teaching experience and lots of interviews under my belt but I'm particularly interested in this program and want to do well in the interview.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I'll bump this... It's a long process... I'm assuming you are in by now. If there are people interested in the ELF program you can pm me. I'm finishing this week. Yey kinda :/ |

Maybe you ought to join Hermione Granger's Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, (SPEW). |
