Is it possible to get a business visa and teach English freelance full time with no affiliation with any other school? |

It's possible and people are doing it. But it's illegal and this kind of freelancing, generally speaking, takes time. If you plan on doing this just after arriving in the country you might find yourself waiting awhile before you network enough to build up sufficient numbers of students/classes to actually start paying the bills. |

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have phrased it better. Can you legally teach with a business visa? And I think you already answered that.
What if a person had a legitimate tutoring business, a one person sort of operation in the states and then wanted to move it over there? Are the regulations for setting up a legal business in China just too prohibitive? |

A foreign friend is part-owner of a language center. Yes, there are criteria for opening such a venture, and the criteria are much greater than those for simple FTs who are hired by schools. Depending upon the scope of your business, you may have to produce capital, pay license fees and taxes, and have actual experience as an administrator of such a business. Contact the Ministry of Education for full details. |

No. This is also not what a business visa is for.

If you want to start a business of your own then you are going to need to have a good deal of initial capital available to show. |

I don't ask these questions because I am planning to open a school. I am just curious as to what the situation is. Thanks for your posts! |
