Good God who would ever accept a teaching job there now?? You would have to be insane or completely desperate. You are so lucky to get out and I would have done the same. There a some good schools in China.

Thanks for updating the situation, it is always useful to know how these issues we argue about for a few pages actually turn out.

Timer. Is the accomodation your only problem with this school? I know it is not the best but it is livable and you could make it more comfortable with little expense. Can't expect every school to provide a palace for you to live in. There is also a chance to work overtime teaching the oveseas students in grades 10 to 12, which I do and really enjoy.

Some more ft's are arriving and they have freshly painted apartments and new furniture to welcome them.
Apart from the living quarters the school is actually a good place to work. I have been here for 4 yrs. Two other teachers are in their 5th year. another in his 3 rd and two more in their 2nd. The kindergarten is a nice place to work and the hours are not taxing. hours 9 30 to 11 and 3.30 to 5. Although I only taught in the kindy for a month, as cover, I enjoyed it and the kids were and still are wonderful. The other teachers really love it when they get in to the swing of things.

The school actually do a lot for the foreign teachers. We have dinners and trips, one trip was to Guilin, and are given gifts for teachers day and other occasions. Problems in or out of class are dealt with almost immediately and everyone pulls their weight to help each other.
The Chinese teachers and staff from top to bottom are all very friendly and many of them speak English

As for the washing machines. We have been using those for 3 yrs now with no problem. Before, we used to leave our dirty clothes etc outside in a laundry bag and the school worker would collect it and take it to the laundry room

As for living off school. There are only 2 teachers doing that because of their relationships with a Chinese female. One is married to a Chinese teacher from Zhaoqing so it is easier for him to live in their home in the city.

I have been in China for 7 years and this is the best school I have taught at even though my other schools were enjoyable. And I am not planning going anywhere else unless ths school or the PSB decide it's time for me to leave.

Maybe if u had stuck around a little longer u would have found things changed for the better

This is a good school and a beautiful city and I am happy to be here.

One can expect a school to provide reasonable accommodation.
One finds that many schools do NOT provide reasonable accommodations.
One also finds that if one is provided with reasonable accommodations, then one is much happier at the school and more likely to stay for long periods of
time .
A school which does not attend to the basics, will often skimp on the things that a person is entitled to according to contract.

Different people have different experiences. What's good for one may be unacceptable for someone else.
