Hi
I am a recently qualified teacher (I finished my CELTA in March) and my girlfriend (who also has a CELTA) and I have been applying for teaching positions in Spain for some time now. We are both native speakers from England. Unfortunately, our online applications haven't yet resulted in a job. As many jobs appear to start in late September or early October I am now getting rather worried about our prospects of finding work in Spain. Therefore, we have decided to fly to Spain next week and go round as many schools as possible and try to find work this way.
Does anybody have any advice about how to go about this or any good locations to try to find work? We haven't booked our flights yet but the vague plan is to fly into Malaga and try to cover as many cities in the South as possible, so probably Malaga, Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Murcia. Will it be possible to find work in these places or would it be better to try Madrid? I fear Madrid may be prohibitively expensive to live in. Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Peter,
I dont think Madrid is too expensive, others with more first hand knowledge should know.
I am in the same position as you, I got my CELTA in June in Sevilla but came back to the UK since did only 10 days of esl work.
If I decide to go back to Spain this month, I am going to Madrid.
In my view the other cities are small and if like me you dont have so much experience Madrid is ok.
Then after a year experience, I am sure one will be able to get a nice job near the sea/surf whatever you want.
Madrid, you can get a night bus to the seaside for the weekends.
Use ALSA to get around. |

Hi James
Sorry I mustn't have been notified when you replied as I have only just seen this. Thanks for your response. I have ended up in Cordoba, as my girlfriend got a job here. I have done a full week of substitue teaching for one school and have now secured part time hours with another. Hopefully, that, and a few private students will keep me going here. Good luck with your job search
