a) I love Mussandam, particularly when youve just got out of the UAE on to the coastal road to Khasab. On one side there are sheer cliffs and on the other beautiful sandy beaches.
b) I love the clear blue-green waters of Wadi Shab, such a peaceful oasis when youve driven through the dust.
c) I love some of the waterfalls in Dhofar that are approached through narrow lanes off the beaten track, ideally in early September when the skies are blue and everythings still green. |

The very best ones I prefer to keep a secret, because I love having them to myself... but here are a few to share.
a) In Muscat:
Hidden alleyways in Muttrah Souq
Secret Garden sheesha platforms at Kargeen Restaurant, MQ
Qurm Corniche ("Lovers Lane")
b) In Al Batinah:
Mountain road between Barka and Rustaq (scenic alternative to the highway)
c) In Salalah:
Just about everything...
Beautiful kind people
Haffa Beach
Outside town, the Empty Quarter Camp http://www.secretsalalah.com/2011/03/empty-quarter-camps.htm
What a wonderful country. |

a) Ditto Wadi Shab, and I'll add Wadi Tiwi. Wonderful weekend getaways and easily accessible from Muscat.
b) Nizwa/Bahla area. Nizwa for its wonderful souq, fort and castle, Bahla for its potters, fort, and Jabreen Castle, and Al Hootah Cave is nearby as well...
c) Masirah. First and only place I've been to in Oman where I saw no other foreigners. Beautiful desolate beaches and friendly, welcoming locals. |
