It would be great if some people with experience can help paint me a picture of what kind of job I can get and what is a salary I should not go under depending on the hours.

-I have 2.5 years experience in Korea.
-Bachelor's degree (non English related)
-100 hour TEFL certificate (IIIT)

I hear the better more relaxed jobs are private schools not government run schools but they pay a bit lower.

What can I expect to get with my experience and qualifications?

You'll only be able to get a position with a private school or company with those qualifications. The colleges of technology and state schools require you to at least an English or Education undergrad degree.

If you want to get your foot in the door here, your only option will probably be with one of the private language schools. Also with those credentials, you'll be starting off on the lower end of the pay scale.

Hi

I would question whether the degree has to be in English or Education.

You need a degree, a recognized teaching qualification (eg CELTA) and a reasonable range of experience. Being a native speaker helps.

Thanks for the information. What is the salary for a private language school for example?

I have seen some government/state schools jobs advertised that require a Bachelor's in any disipline. But seems that might be the case with what I have been told here.

The MOM is so desperate for native teachers that as long as you have a bachelors degree (any field), a CELTA, and some uni/college experience they will take you. Oh, and you're not crazy.

This is sadly the thing that is usually missed in their rather slipshod hiring practices. But, it does make for colorful fellow teachers and faculty meetings. Laughing
