I guess what I'm asking is what the deal is.

Do schools pay the agencies and then agencies pay the teacher? If so, how often does this arrangement occure? I'm sure that would mean they profit from each teacher every month, which has many implications in terms of 'employee power'.

Do the schools pay agencies to find teachers, a one off pay day? It seems not. But I don't know.

Another query I have - do agencies have the slack to be able to pocket benefits that have gone unclaimed? Like not registering medical for somebody or placing them in cheap housing, or even car pooling.

Any thoughts, knowledge, facts shared are appreciated.

Become qualified and stop asking questions like this. The only reason that people (not you, I don't know you) ask questions such as these are because of corners being cut.

It's the hard, unsolicited truth!

Now, It's Scary... don't be so mean!! Laughing This fellow could have a MA for all we know, but just doesn't understand the hiring process in Saudi Arabia.

But, I don't know that anyone here actually knows the answers to his questions... I don't. I suspect that the answers vary widely by employer and whatever recruitment method they are using.

I don't mean to be "mean"! I'm sorry to hear of so many tragic cases. Personally, I never, as did John (if I may) had to ask these questions. We both came qualified and were able to ask (demand?) what was coming to us.

But, then again, I always lived on "Western" compounds, 'cept one year.

I realize that I'm a lucky survivor...

It's how I feel!

P.s.- I love Saudi Arabia, but see it through "Western" eyes!

Dear It's Scary,

"Personally, I never, as did John (if I may) had to ask these questions."

Ah, but that was then, and it would seem hiring practices have changed a good (or bad, actually) deal for many places in Saudi over the past few years.

By the way, I never lived on a "Western compound," which was fine with me - especially when the compound bombings started happening.

Regards,
John

It seems to me that there are a bunch of trollers who comment on every single thread, even if they can't offer anything. And then, the same set of trollers hijack the thread and turn it into chat.

In this thread, check the topic, if you can't help, move on.

You guys should make a thread where you can chat all day.. call it 'I KNOW MORE THAN YOU AND IM MORE QUALIFED PLUS IM REALLY SMART'.

Ill start it for you guys, don't come out.

Hey there, Sheriff:

Be very, very careful of whom you term as a "troll". It's a filthy word when used against honest commentators. We have enough of the thought police here w/o you chiming in!

You seem to be someone who wants to walk in with "eyes wide closed". I submit that we'll hear from you again in six short months with complaints of how you're being treated like chattel (look it up!)!

Who cares how much people get paid for bringing you into this morass? A hand in the pocket is a hand in the pocket. Do you want this thread locked as well?

Or, do you want to use the "T"-word again!

It's like calling someone a Nazi, where do you go from there?!?

Once you initiate a thread, you don't have the power to control the content of responses.

It doesn't amount to a hill of beans who pays what to whom, that is, other than to youm. Of course, if you're interested in becoming an agent, then it's a different ball game.

MEB Cool

Congrats, MEB! You've invented a new word! It's the formal form of "you"! I think that I'll use it w/o license! Wink

= troll: "purveyor of meaningless drivel" who loves to take center stage. Continual gossip and chin-wagging has nothing to do with providing useful information to teflers, old and new.

Except that it is totally inaccurate. A "Troll" in computer terms is someone who only shows up to cause dissension and start flame wars. Someone who insults and attacks other posters just to get a rise or just because they disagree with their opinion.

A "discussion" board is a society of people of whom some you will like and some you will not... just like the average faculty lounge. Conversations here are also like real life... where opinions and ideas diverge and go off in odd directions. But, most questions get answered if readers are willing to read and merely ignore the comments that don't interest them.

I was going to ask for his source, but I looked it up at www.cheapshot.com!

It's a desperate way of gaining people's attention!
