Hi there,
In Korea at the moment teaching in a Middle School.
I have:
1. B.Ed in Primary School Teaching
2. 1 year primary teaching experience at home
3. 1 year English teaching experience in Korea.
What sort of jobs could I look at in Shanghai and what could I earn?
Would an international elementary school be possible?
Finally, has anyone here lived in Seoul and Shanghai? How do the two compare?
Thanks. |

Even though you will be teaching kids whose parents have lots of cash, that cash won't always end up in your hands. The profit ratio for businesses in China compared to western countries is absurdly high and the salaries are absurdly low.
You will do most of the hard-work, and the boss will reap a larger portion of the money than Korean or Japanese schools would. Make no mistake: in China, the purpose of schools are to make money. Even principals in public schools make tons of cash through backdoor deals.
Expect to be initially offered around 9000-12000 RMB a month, housing not included. I strongly suggest you find a list of all real international schools (avoid Korean ones if possible) in the area and start e-mailing them.
I also urge you to contact the education ministries of major developed countries and ask them if they have any partnerships within Shanghai. These are the accredited schools you want to be working for in China.
Then you will be able to command a much more decent wage; well over 18000 RMB a month with housing provided and end-of-year bonus. |
