Surf the internet. Prepare for social clubs. Go out for LONG lunches, or take care of other errands.
At my last training center job, they didn't keep close tabs on whether we were in the office or not if we didn't have class. In fact, that's the only way I would ever have it again if I decided to work a private training center again. |

last year, the uni required 2 office hours per week to be
available for the students. unless there was an exam the
next day, and they came to say "ting bu dong!", only one
or two came by on a regular basis.
if no students, then can grade papers, surf the interwebs,
work on lesson plans.
this year at a new school, ft's don't have an office. drat!
no office hours! we get office furniture in the spare bedroom. |

at my current job: marking and lesson planning.
at some previous jobs that had me teaching only a few lesson plans each week, i'd spend my office hours surfing the net, streaming tv online, chatting on msn messenger (some times, my friend and i would play scrabble online). |

I don't have office hours. I do have what I term "planning periods". On three of my five days, I have one period in the morning where I don't teach because the kids are off to PE or music class. So I get copies made or grade tests or whatever. On the other two days, all my classes are in the morning, so I do the same thing as the other days, but I simply leave once I've prepared for my next day's lessons. Also, afternoons are great times to socialize or share notes with other teachers who are also hanging out after their classes are done. |

I'm supposed to have two hours a week but I have "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" on my syllabus and that seems to be OK with the powers that be. |

Lesson planning, Chinese pod, read the paper... There's a limit to what you can do really!
I've always thought of installing Football Manager on my school laptop, but that'd be taking the piss I think. Good way to whittle down the hours though.. |

Two hours of office hours per week at my uni. None of my students want to walk that far to come to my office. Surf the net, sleep, read, anything I want.
I can trade my "office hours" for English Corner time if I want. |

Man...I really need my office hours to plan. I usually work 10 hours a day and am still pressed for time. I've been teaching adults for a little over a year...and struggle for time management. I guess it kinda works itself out. |
