I have heard from other teachers in the past that there are moving companies that will come to your apartment, pack up all your things and move them to your new location even if it is in another province. Has anyone here used one of these before? What are the fees?

The last person I talked to about this seemed to be saying that people working at the train station are involved in this kind of work.

hard to give you good information without knowing from where,
to where, how much stuff, what floor, youmeiyou elevator.

any decent-sized town should have hordes (that means a lot)
of moving companies. look for the "搬家公司" on the side of the
truck.

prices? in kunming, i could get a truck with 5 dudes to load
my stuff, drive to the new apartment in kunming, and unload.
cost would be 100-150 rmb.

when i moved from kunming to guangxi (near nanning), the
total cost was around 3000, which included around 500 in
expressway tolls.

why not ask your FAO to help you contact a moving company?
(hehe, or is it a surprise....)

Any Century 21 or other real estate agencies will arrange a mover for you in a few minutes.

I work as an independent and have accumulated appliances such as washing machine, fridge, etc. and have changed apartments many times albeit always in the same city. The agency where I find an apartment always sets up a mover at very reasonable prices.

Incidentally, once my new digs were on the 7th floor(no elevator/lift) and 3 men with a big van moved me. They put small articles in the washer tub and spin dry compartment, taped the lids closed, strapped it to a guy's back and he carried it to the 7th floor...another did the same with the fridge ... they didn't look to be that strong...geez, I have trouble just climbing those stairs with only a book bag.

The man that delivers 2 large bottles of water every couple of weeks looks to be in his fifties and he carries one full bottle in each hand and also does the stairs non-stop .... I'm impressed!

it is a useful thread, i get that location matters but i do think this is a useful thread. i worry less about finding a new job than i do about moving my sh&^ to a new place. how do i go about finding these hordes. thanks.
