I will be graduating from university this week with a degree in English/journalism and I desperately want to teach abroad. I have applied with some companies in Asia, but I would also like to try Mexico. My father's side of the family is from Puerto Vallerta, so I'd like to eventually end up there, but if anyone knows of any jobs... I am eager to find out! I have looked at the previous postings, but some of those sites dont work. any help you could offer me will be great. Thanks! Very Happy

Hi. I (like Nawlinsgurl) have recently finished my b.a. in English, and am interested in teaching abroad. And, also like Nawlinsgurl, my first choice is Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara, but I'm willing to work almost anywhere else in Mexico. I have been working in a literacy center for the past 5 years, where I tutor both children and adults in basic English, Spanish, and ESL, but I don't have any type of certificate (other than a tutor training certificate I received when I first started working here, and my b.a., of course). How difficult do you think it would be for me to find a job with my experience? The schools that I have found all want either credentialed teachers or persons with a TEFL certificate.

I suggest that you go to Asia first. The schools there usually have good (paid) in-house training programs when you first start, the class sizes are small and the students are generally very easy to work with. After you have a years or more experience, then you will come to Mexico better prepared and be a more competitive candidate.

I've always been a big latinophile myself, but aboslutely loved the year and a half that I spent in Japan.
