My wife used to take English exams for ppl.. good money for a student... she was offered 1500rmb a couple months back... turned it down tho.

There are 2 types of CTs at my school.. those hired directly by the school and those placed at the school through the government..

those hired by the school are young grads that got the job after doing a placement while in uni... The government teachers either purchased the position or come from powerful families.

My inlaws paid 20,000RMB to get my wife a treasurer position in her university's communist party...

this stuff happens all the time.... look at state grid.. ppl spend millions to get in.

Please forgive my stubborn scepticism, but I still do not believe that English teachers are actually posing as ringers for Chinese people and taking their exams for them. The invigilators would have to be blind not to spot the subtle characteristic facial features.

Probably the same point that the guy posting about the Chinese diplomat 'saving' so many Jews, except this is now and that was in the 30's.

You reckon?

And your point is? Perhaps any "comments" referring to the thread about Ho Feng Shan can be made on the thread about Ho Feng Shan. There may be some relevance then.

Probably because you've never bothered to read your own posts. Can't say I blame you.

Yup, English teachers can be Chinese. You probably have them at your school too. They usually outnumber the FTs by quite a large margin.

If you're going to state an unsupported assumption that I don't have any Chinese friends, and that the ones I do have are either lying to me or are "minders" of some sort, you get what's coming to you.

BTW, language ability and cultural awareness are two different things.

It may not be just a corrupt cesspool but there cannot be any argument that China is largely a corrupt country. Sad but true.

Just because somebody makes a claim about something not being good, it doesn't mean that said person wants it to be that way. I certainly wish things were not like they are (this is going to be my home for at least a good few more years), but everywhere I look there's corruption. Sometimes you just have to face the facts.

Understanding why something is a certain way, is a seperate issue. Either China is an extremely corrupt country or it isn't.

My wife has been asked to play ringer, as have several of my English-speaking friends.

It is an actual well-known fact that this happens. We foreigners are not asked to do this for obvious reasons.

Fair comment and one which leaves me covered in opprobrium. Somehow that post bypassed me.
