Hi. I tried searching the site before I posted here but there seems to be a problem with the search engine.

I am wondering if there are any 6 months contacts in the ME. I would ideally like to go from Jan until about June or July. Does this even exist in the ME?

Thanks for the help.

BocaNY, it seems that most short-term contracts target local hires, although I do know of a few qualified teachers who were mid-year hires brought in from the US and UK. However, they expected to stay on for the next school year. But in your situation, it's your unrelated BA and lack of TEFL qualification and experience that will make it difficult for you to get any teaching job in the region. However, I recall you were considering completing a CELTA or other equivalent TEFL cert. That would improve your chances overall for teaching gigs. But don't hold your breath for good paying, short-term opportunities.

I have my CELTA and 2 years teaching experience plus am working on my MA in TESOL right now. The thing is I have to be in South America by next fall.

Unless others on this forum have info about short-term gigs in the ME, you may have to invest some time on the Internet searching for teaching spots based on your desired timeframe and not on a specific country or region.

No reputable employer (those who pay on time in full and provide legal documentation - the latter being the killer) are going to go to the time, trouble and expense for a 6 month hire for visa, medical and security clearances. Anyone who offers a job otherwise is operating illegally and you will be held responsible for the consequences - not pretty or pleasant.

The Colleges of Technology in Oman are often pretty desperate for warm bodies, and teachers can be brought in at the start of a new term (they operate a 3 term academic year) or even mid-term. How many depends on student enrollment, staffing levels, and how many existing teachers have done runners. A couple of the recruiters for the college system are advertising here on the jobs board now. This will likely be for a January start until early July. Some of the recruiters for universities and colleges in Saudi are similarly advertising, however I am not sure how their contracts work.

In both cases, caveat emptor.

If you want a six month contract then I suggest you try Oman.

The Ibri College of Technology always requires teachers as the turnover is pretty high. Last year, several teachers arrived in Feb. and there was a teacher who arrived in Apr. and received a three month contract. If you want to stay then you can sign up for another year in August.
