Snide comment above aside, I wish I could afford to.

If my exams and grades actually meant something, I would probably jump at a chance to work in a college.

Come on, you do have a tendency to bang on about this, and have done so twice in this thread. Why does it shock you that those of us that do teach at university and get satisfaction from it take exception to the suggestion we are "promotional monkeys"?

If you work in the right place, your grades and teaching can mean a lot to the students and the staff. You are not going to be treated as though you were a renowned professor at Cambridge or Harvard, but you will be taken seriously and appreciated. If not always by the staff or other teachers (though this is not out of the question) then by the students.

Is this all or most university jobs? Perhaps not, but it is possible to find rewarding work.

Agreed.

You're right. It sometimes depends on the location, or more specifically the school, but teachers who deliver quality in the university classroom, those who take the job seriously, tend to find that their lessons and subsequently the grades they award, are meaningful to the students.

I wonder how many unis around are such a right place to work in and how many FTs' grades stand and mean so much. Perhaps, forums could assertain all and offer more accurate generalizations too. Smile
