Blog of the current or recent PCV in Taldykorgan. I believe he works at the NIS in that city.

His email is on the website as well. Sometimes the volunteers go without regular internet access so it may be hard to get in touch with him but it might be worth a shot. I am not in the Peace Corps but I am friends with a 3rd year volunteer who helps to evaluate sites so if you have no luck let me know and I might be able to put you in touch with someone.

The US Peace Corp is abandoning Kazakhstan after recent terrorism attacks, rapes of American volunteers and threats against security.
Just a warning to all those out there to reconsider before taking a job in Kazakhstan. The situation is a growing one and potentially will get worse!

I know many of the volunteers personally, several of them are upset that they are leaving and I have had several ask me how can they manage to stay here. Almatythen is on the ground here as well myself. I feel safe in KZ (as safe as anywhere that is) and anyone who is thinking about coming here is welcome to PM me. |

I'll 2nd KazPat's feelings on safety. Only once was I a bit concerned about my safety and that was in a hotel in Almaty where I was staying in a 2 man hotel room only to find out that the hotel had rented out the other half of the room to a stranger! This was more of a language/communication issue than an "out to get you" issue.
Granted, I am on the east side (Asian) of KZ and most of the threats seem to come from the west side (European) of KZ.
Be glad to share with anyone who has questions. Shoot me a PM! |

How are things there now? I've seen job offers from Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools which are pretty good |
