Ok, I know alot of people aren't too fond of online TEFL certificates, but bear with me. I have experience teaching English in Central America, and want to go to China, but right now I simply cannot commit to in person classes etc. Belive me if I could, I would.

Now then, are employers/recruiters going to care about how many 'hours' my TEFL certificate was online? I look at it as a relatively moot point, but I've seen questions like "Was your online cert. 100+ hours Yes/No" or "Please provide the contact info of your online tutor"

So I know this is kinda stupid, but should I be thinking a 100 hr course is the online 'benchmark' or should I just lowball it as I don't know how much I'll pick up anyway and just need to get a cert.? Embarassed

If you have experience teaching in Central America, I very much doubt you will have any problem finding a job in China-- with or without a TEFL/TESOL/TAFL/TRIFFLE/CELTA/CALTA/ etc. as long as you look the role.

In China, precious few schools even know the difference between a CELTA and my cheap 100 hour online course.

My first university job required a 100 hour course so I crashed-coursed one in about two weeks. Everybody happy! I don't recommend this. Crying or Very sad

But I think at most you need a 100 online ... or nothing.

So get something online then finish the real course when you have time.
