Lucky Being Black, training schools are not your best bet. The parents don't want their kids around Black people. Racism is a learned behavior/attitude. It is passed to children from parents.

Criminally minded Africans don't help matters, either. In a large city near here, Africans were confined to the campus where they were studying military matters. It was believed by the administration that they should not be allowed to mingle freely with the people in the community

I recently heard that a very nice Asian nation near China is restricting its entire immigration policy due to the bad influence of Africans who were taking advantage of liberal immigration policies and causing problems. True or not, that is how Blacks are perceived by many.

If you are determined to stay here, you will be punished. I'm subject to racist taunts on a daily basis. I can't imagine what you will experience.

...and blacks are perceived by many in Britain, the USA and all over Europe as causers of problems. Are black people who determine to stay and work in those countries punished for it?

Do you speak for all Chinese parents in China when you say that they "don't want their kids around black people"? That's quite a strong statement, so please clarify.

So, because you "heard" that another nation, not China is supposedly changing its immigration policies because of Africans causing problems, this somehow translates that Lucky should not teach in China because she is black? I think you need to be more convincing than that. There are Africans studying in my university and they can come and go as they please. Yours could be an isolated case due to local circumstances or there may be another reason why such restrictions are implemented on African students.

Yes, it may be harder for black people to get employment as English teachers in China as opposed to whites, but your post, certainly, does not accurately relay the conditions that the average black person experiences in China.

You are subjected to racist taunts everyday? Well that's your experience. It doesn't automatically mean that Lucky will, or is, experiencing the same, regardless of her skin colour. She is apparently already in country and has been teaching here for a while, anyway. She would, then, presumably be aware of the Chinese environment already.

Update

I have two interviews this week.

One is for a school in Suzhou and the other is a language school in Turkey.

I will have to shift my job hunting. I'm looking outside of China too.

I also have a university in Zheinjiang interested, so there are a few enlightened Chinese employers.

For the record ,I am an American. I understand the challenges here in China for people of color. I have met a Chinese woman who didn't know Obama is our president. As a matter of fact she didn't know that Sarkozy is France's president either. It's the lack of current events awareness here makes it hard for others/foreigners.

I have black American friends who are successful here in China. I also have Caribbean and African friends who are also very successful. It depends on the person and the industry their in.

I went to a China-Caribbean Christmas party in Shanghai at the Crowne Plaza.
There were at least 200-300 blacks in attendance from throughout the diaspora. They were either students or professionals in Shanghai. It was a very diverse group (Hispanics,Africans,Americans, and Chinese).
Most seem to be very pleased to be here in China.

So I will continue to look and read the boards.
Thanks Again

Diversity is in China if you look for it.

I doubt if most Americans know who Sarkozy is. Many of our fellow Americans tend to be woefully ignorant on current events.

I have also worked with African-American teachers here who are doing fine and are well-liked by their students. I think some of the most blatant prejudice you will encounter is that from other FT's who tout their white skin to try to get a leg up on the competition. Things are tough all over. Keep at it and don't get discouraged. You will find the job you want in China.

Any particular reason you're subjected to racist taunts every day? Have you given this any serious thought?
