Religion makes people do strange things you say? Funny, I hadn't noticed.

If witches advertised their services,
do you think that there
would be a "Which?" guide produced for them?
http://www.which.co.uk/

Just imagine...

"Special features in this month's issue:-
- Would your cat testify against you in court...the Top 10 Tell-tale Signs...
- Beheadings -No Growing Back!
- Locating the Devil's mark -is it always invisible?
- Is White Magic this year's Black?
- Ducking-stools in Desertlands"

In the current absence of a "Which? Witch" guide,
may I suggest "Witch-hunt" instead:-

I witnessed beheadings in Jeddah, and it's not aways a quick one chop deal. Fortunately for the recipient, they are obviously heavily sedated and seemed pretty unaware of what was about to happen to them.

Beheading with a well maintained guillotine would be my choice of execution.

In Um al Quwain in the UAE where a firing squad is the method, I was at the public shooting range there and the police showed up with someone to be shot. The police invited everyone to join in with the shooting. They said traditionally executions are a community affair, (stoning), so come on down. I deferred as I only shoot people who have the ability to shoot back. It's just not sporting you know.

Re Maddoff. As a former CFA, I can say this: His victims thought they were getting something for nothing and should have been skeptical.

"If you think it's too good to be true, then it probably is."

Re witchcraft: There's more to the "world" than most people can actually "see". I make this statement based on time spent with indigenous peoples in Meso and South America.

Did you know there are white witches as well as black witches, (types of witchcraft, not race).

Dear 2buckets(where one should have been enough),
There have been two beheadings in the town where I live, I have been to neither, and will never be. I myself am at crossroads when asked if capital punishment is moral/judicial, but in the case of public decapitation, NO.
Regards.

I'm not quite as aspirational as you are, 2buckets. Smile

My tip of the day is that when facing a firing squad,
one should shout "Earthquake! Earthquake!"
very loudly through your hood.

In any case, in Saudi Arabia, the Jinn are a bigger problem to deal with than witches, surely?
That word, "Jinn", has an interesting etymology...

Dear OzMak,

Even worse, the TV series "I Dream of Jeannie" would have never been made.

Sorcery is nonsense; only backward buffoons believe in it. This woman conned people out of $800, hardly a life changing amount in Saudi.

I'm British and we haven't had the death sentence for years and even then in peace time it was only used for murderers.

Civil society evolves; Sharia law remains the same.

sorcery is nonsense you say? care to take a trip down East Java or perhaps take a stroll through Tanzania? while you're at it why not see what those voodoo practitioners get up to in Haiti. Sure it may not be prevalent in developed countries although the stories I've encountered from people around me lead me to suggest otherwise.

Would really suck if the death sentence weren't used in Britain for rapists and the like!

Of course it's nonsense; I didn't say it doesn't exist.....all that bad juju stuff, chickens blood and child sacrifice, while horrific, is still based on a load of tosh.

I'm glad we don't have the death sentence in Europe, although I do think it should be allowable in exceptional cases for terrorism and murder with intent, especially of children. As for rape? Well, that's a tricky one as hundreds of people a year have false rape allegations made against them. My personal feeling is that a lot of innocent people, mainly men would get done in as the cases often boil down to his word against hers. Look at Tyson; what was she doing in his hotel room at that time of night on his bed? Same year a Kennedy got off for raping a girl next to his pool. Drink's often involved, things are hazy, people can send the wrong signals....nah prison's ok for that one.

In Saudi of course, that never arises because the woman needs four witnesses to prove it.
