I was wondering if anyone has some more information on how to get a teaching position in UAE (if it is possible at all)

I have obtained my CELTA, two months ago and I am currently teaching amongst others at a department within Cairo University and through a training company at one of the national companies in Egypt.

I have a Bachelor Degree in European Business Studies and a MSc in International Marketing Management.

My previous work experience is all over the place but it includes operations management, sales and account management as well as sales and product training courses. Not ideal for teaching I know but I was wondering if that maybe could help me get into the business side of things?

Is a passport from a native speaking country required? I am entitled to Australian citizenship but for practical reasons I have always retained my Dutch passport (though I more fluent in English than in Dutch). Is that going to scare prospective employers off? Should I swap passports?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

No job in the Gulf is worth messing around with your passport. There are a lot of EFL teachers there from Arabic speaking countries...and I once worked for a Dutch woman (part-time) who ran a private school.

Send out your resume and see who bites.

As you've probably already discovered reading through these forums, to qualify for the better jobs in EFL a related Master's + 3 or more years post grad experience is generally required.

That said, the implosion occuring at HCT might give you a look - your business Master's might get you noticed for content, but as they are pretending to be a Bachelor degree granting institution soon, they may only look at PhD holders.

Better jobs pay (in addition to salary) housing, annual flights home, medical and a furniture allowance. They also provide the legal documentation for you to work in UAE - any one who requires you to enter on a visit visa (and do visa runs) is not an institution that you want to work for.

I'd say you were a good candidate for the business department at the HCT.

As mentioned by the previous poster, you will be very sorry if you go to HCT and in particular Sharjah's Business Dept although saying that, as per usual, incompetence gets promotion so there is going to be a new business dept supervisor. The only hope there is that the new supervisor is from outside the system and not an existing employee.

I would've mentioned something as well, but I seem to have earned the ire of a particular apologist, so will let others carry the water until things cool down.

It's best to keep low until a certain somebody runs out of patience as many others have!
