Dear Colleagues (joke...),

So, what is going on at QU these days? Any updates? The pay is not exactly inspiring...Do single "newbies" have to share accommodation, or is it a share deal? Sorry for asking a naive (but key) question, but can singletons legitimately have "relations" in respective accommodations? Er, ...I guess I know what to expect on campost...BUT, give us the low down on salary scale, pleeeze. How to you get into the post-foundation programme?

No legitimate Gulf university requires its teachers to share accommodations. As to your activities within those accommodations, use common sense and discretion... this is a conservative Muslim country.

Last I heard... a year or so ago, the starting salary was somewhere between $4-4500 a month plus the usual benefits with a required related MA plus some experience.

Where does the 13,500 QR (US$3700) number come from? Was that your offer? A friend of mine with a new MA was offered that 3 or 4 years ago at QU and I know that they raised their start number after that.

Perhaps with the collapse of HCT in the UAE, there are too many highly experienced teachers wanting to escape and they have taken advantage to lower their entry pay. You can always try negotiating.

I picked that figure up on an old forum thread...it's obviously out of date I see now, and who would accept that amount anyway?

Who would want to work there now? They are in a state of collapse.

Plenty of jobs in the magic kingdom, especially for male teachers. King Abdulla is really pushing ahead with reforms. Women may be driving by 2015.

Only if he lives that long... and the next King will be very conservative and can just as easily take it away again.

People are praying for him. He took over King Fahd's duties years ago after his stroke. He's been a respected leader and is really promoting women's rights. It's a tricky business dealing with the ulema who want to keep women locked up and out of sight. He's tried his best to deal with the radical elements in rehabilitation centers and they seem to work.

QU Foundation is not recommended - the program is in chaos. Too many cooks making a mess and nobody telling anybody what is really going on.
