Do I need to bring the original medical reports (such as chest x-ray results, blood test results) when applying for the Chinese Z visa, or do I just need to bring the original "Physical Examination for Foreigners Report" that is filled out and signed by a doctor?

I don't think they want everything, but there is little harm in bringing it if you are going to apply directly yourself. I think they might ask for the medical form, but don't think they need all the results alongside it.

The consulate does not need the X-ray film. All results of all tests should be recorded of the form "Physical Examination for Foreigners Report". Just make sure that the clinic/doctor/hospital stamp is on the page where it is indicated. For good measure, ask the clinic/doctor/hospital to stamp each page.

You'll probably just have to take the whole test all over again.

In 2010 in San Francisco, they asked for all of the laboratory reports and clinic documents as well as the consulate form. In 2011, same consulate, they only wanted the consulate form. I wouldn't read it as: "they are getting more relaxed in their policies." I would read that as: "They change their minds on occasion." So better to bring too much and let them pick out what they want. Bring a copy plus the original of all of your latest medical check.

I had the correctly filled out form (by a doctor in Australia) but it was rejected. They wanted all the blood results etc, which I did not have with me. So I had to do another medical exam in China.

I think they just wanted the extra revenue from my tests.
