Any info. appreciated! |

Edgware is at the end of the Northern Line on the London Underground.
They won't be abe to help you much re getting a job in Qatar, but you will get a free Tube map and information about services into Central London. |

Honolulu Lou,
Edgeware College is based in Ireland, but they have global campuses in China (more than 10 years in Beijing); Kazakhstan (training pilots etc of Air Astana); UAE and Libya.
They specialise in teaching Aviation English, and in China are recognised by the CAAC. I did some part-time teaching for them and found them to be a professional outfit.
I think they intend opening a new campus in Qatar in January 2012, as they have recently signed a partnership agreement with European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS). This will be at the Qatar Technology and Scientific Park.
Check out the website:http://www.edgewater.ie/global/qatar.html |

Thanks, spiral78, for pointing out my silly mistake - I was looking at the original OP (and probably too much mulled wine!)
It is Edgewater.
Happy Christmas! |

Understandable mistake, but it seemed time to clarify the name of the school as versus a tube station
Mulled wine is a respectable factor; enjoy!!
(I'll be going for the Czech version 'svařak' myself in a couple of hours) |

Does anyone know what they're looking for?
Have a friend who's also looking, ex-pilot, degree & CELTA and over the 5years of experience ... but not even got through to interview stage
Or is this another operation (non-aviation) they are setting up? |

They do specialize in aviation english and I've heard, are going to try to set up something in the future regarding that but this contract is with Qatar Petroleum - teaching vocational english to company trainees and employees........14,000QR for this..not bad in my opinion - not sure about the accommodation and transportation deal though |

They've got the QP contract from CDC. Who just fired all the staff without warning after 3 months. |

Is this the contract Lang Sols just lost?
Finally it seems a reputable company with concern for it's staff might be doing more in the Gulf! |

It's the contract CDC had - Langsols just did the recruitment. For the record both companies have behaved decently, allowing people to stay in flats, helping them get other jobs etc.
Unlike QP who call the shots. It turns out that not only did QP know all along that they only wanted the staff for 3 months because the change in contractor was planned some time ago.
Given that they always recruit at least two or three more people than they actually need because the attrition rate is so high - especially in the first three months, perhaps some of the new Edgewater people shouldn't unpack, never mind settle down. It remains to be seen how well this Edgewater lot (run by the same guy who was doing it before, back in Imtiaz days) will treat the first few to be fired...

Edgewater Qatar - run by my old drinking buddy Malachy, the man with nine lives. I don't know how he does it - he has been around forever and still manages to survive. So now he's got the QP contract? Well good for him. I still come to Q to have a booze-up now and then like this weekend. Pretty dry in the magic kingdom. |
