Man, what a newbie! Unfortunately, the China you want to retire to does not exist. Did you check out North Korea's generous pension system?

He is no more Canadian than I am Chinese. A Chinese English learner, perhaps. No Westerner spouts CCP nonsense as well as him.

Sir, you wound me! I believe the CCP is the glue that holds this vast and sometimes fractious country together. Some folks are just going to have to realize that others don't agree with their assessments of how things work here and accept it without trying to put forth fallacious arguments like denying a person's claim to be a citizen of a certain country.

Or to put it another way, No Westerner will blurt out the CCP nonsense as certain posters have here. Either that or he is yanking our chains. But as Yoggi Berra once said, "I just calls em as I sees em"

Alright, alright! Let's wrap this meeting up and begin paying all those new taxes so that party members can take advantage of investing the money. Leaders claim it'll be profitable and everyone will benefit. Your taxes will probably be like your stock option Smile

Back on topic...

The 15th has passed and the end-of-the month is coming up. Anyone see deductions for the new foreigner social tax yet?

October 15th - 11%
November 15th - 22%
December 15th - 33%

... based on the retroactive nature of the tax as reported in a plethora of places.

Read back for details.

Cyberkada is right. Foreigners need to keep an ye on this. The quickly we catch someone messing around with our pay, we can decide a better response.

You think we could start up a foreign teacher organization?

No mention of this from my boss, and in fact my school plans to hire 3 new foreign teachers next semester, so I guess it's not a problem for them.

Sounds like they don't know about it. Employers can't simply pay the contributions for teachers. They have to issue us with social security cards (not sure they're called that).

That said, I spoke to an EF DOS recently who hadn't heard about this. I'd have thought that EF nationally must know about this, so I'm not sure what they're playing at. Haven't they told their franchises? Are they planning a response?
EF must be one of the largest employers of foreigners in China, so you'd think they'd have been the first to know.

Yes Terrance (or was that Philip?), there certainly shall be much to see in the land that has 5,000 years of history. We shall certainly take part of the natural beauty of factories, and how the sun colours the smog, I mean fog, naturally. As it has done for the last 5,000 years.

Serious question: Did you learn your English in Canada, too? Because I promise you this is not how ordinary Canadians talk. Certainly shall not believe it...

This tax will be a disaster. It means that in just a few short months when it becomes implemented, does this mean that foreigners will owe their entire month's salary to the government?

Who wants to work for an entire month for free? (raise of hands)

I for one did not come to China just to donate my entire monthly salary to China's lousy space program or whatever...

What does an ordinary Canadian talk like? What do they look like? Where do they live? Where did they come from? Because I promise you they aren't all the same.

Give that crystal ball of yours another crank and I'm sure you'll have that answer too.

Looks like a couple commas are missing here. And, all Canadians are nothing but ordinary.

"Certainly shall not believe it..." - this "sentence" makes no sense.

What's the point? Why does everyone seem to be self-appointed police of some kind?

"Great thread" as it usually becomes. (apply sarcasm here)
