Hi all,
I have an interview in Batam on next week and would like to know how much I should expect for an international school salary? Thanks for your help.

Have you tried asking on living in indonesia forum? There are a couple of members there living in Batam. Jared1981 teaches in an international school in Batam so may be able to help.
You'll find the salary is in part dependant on whether you have home teaching credentials rather than just TEFL qualified. If you are a qualified teacher I would expect to get around 20 - 25 million, plus housing allowance, return flights, health insurance etc. If you are only TEFL certified 15million upwards at a guess.
As I said try to get hold of Jared he'll be able to give you a more accurate salary range for Batam. |

I'd doubt that you'd get 20-25mil from any school in Batam.
I also wonder where this figure comes from. I read on this forum so many people quoting it. When applying for jobs at Intl schools, I've used it to indicate my salary expectations only to be told that my expectations are too high. This has happened with a school in Batam and with two schools in Jakarta. |

When I say if you are qualified I mean having QTS from home.
Why do I quote this figure, as do others, because we are earning that or far more.
I also know people earning in the low to mid 20's in Jakarta without QTS but with many years of ESL experience in Indonesia.
I would say you are looking at the wrong schools or they don't think your qualifications/experience are worth that much. |

Hi, Jared here. This forum's pretty dead, so I don't check it often. I work at a National-Plus school that offers the Cambridge curriculum. I don't know that there are any "strictly" international schools here, except BIS, which is quite small, and follows the British curriculum.
As far as salary goes, taking my school as an example, expect somewhere in the 13-17 million range. If you are hired from inside Indonesia, they will NOT provide housing or flights (I've tried).
Most who work at my school are either local, from Jakarta, or the Philippines. |

QTS = qualified teacher status. Eg you are qualified to teach in state schools in your home country. |

Thank you chezal. Even if I do (in biology).. this still would not help me with teaching ESL in TBI or the private sector, as Indonesia still demands the BA in English or something similar! Then I guess only EF schools are viable for me ... jeez. too bad! I [and others I'm certain] could use the extra bread!!
Still open to 'best EF suggestions-- out of Jakarta and east-- please let me know!
Thank you everyone for being here for us newbies... love this support, this forum.. |

Your best bet would probably be to teach science at a national plus school. The hours are more reasonable and the pay is better. I posted a link on one of the recent threads to a list of national plus schools. |
