I am hoping to ship a box of clothes, books and the like to Sadui Arabia before I start my contract as I will be doing a lot of traveling before hand and dont want to pay the baggage fees and lug a suitcase around with me. Does anyone have any advice on a reliable and possibly less expensive method for getting my stuff over there? any info would be a big help |

Ship it by surface mail by USPS. I've done it several times with no problems. |

I think if it's one suitcase then it might be worth just carrying it around with you. Unless, of course, you're over the maximum weight allowed for your flight (normally it's 30kg).
If you're looking for a cheap way of shipping then sea shipment will be the best. But it's about calling your local companies to find out who will give you the best deal. The downside about shipment by sea is that it will take a month (normally) to get to the destination. |

Also check into air freight. I used to drop my box(es) off at the airline freight office at the nearby airport and it was a fraction of the US mail price. But, you need an employer that will take delivery.

Hopefully the states have cheaper services than our postal system here. I know I tried to send my husband a small box of gifts (it was heavy, but not overly.. probably about 2-3 kilos), and the normal postal service said it would cost 70 by air. And 60 by sea. I was like.. err.. forget that! I left it altogether!
Of course, had I have gone with sea shipment OUTSIDE of the normal postal services, it would have been cheaper than that. But I left it 'cause it would have taken 28 days. UPS, Fedex and DHL all quoted me stuff around 50 (for air).
I have heard though when you're sending more + heavier things out (like 50kilos+), then sometimes it's worth checking the air freight 'cause the cost can be just a tad bit more (or slightly cheaper) than sea (If you don't wan to wait a month).
I'm waffling now, lol. Hopefully this info will help someone else though (in Europe, for example).
I genuinely hope you find a way around it and find yourself a good deal though. |
