I have a job offer for a ho-hum college that's OK but I'm still waiting to hear from universities (AUS, Zayed, etc.). When do universities hire in the Spring? Is it better to wait for a better offer or accept something ho-hum now?

Are there good universities that are still hiring at TESOL Arabia or is it just leftovers by then? In other words, is waiting till TESOL Arabia a beneficial thing? I have an MA and a decade of univ experience in the Gulf.

...and you've NEVER been to TESOLArabia?

It's like you've been living on the fringes of Gulf Ed employment!

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for AUS or ZU and most likely they won't be hiring at TESOLArabia. They hire in the single digits for basic TEFL dept jobs and can be very very choosy.

Only you can decide whether to turn down this offer and see if something better is available at TA...

Waiting to get hired by TESOL Arabia...

...it's scary!

Shocked

That ho-hum college might be a great opportunity. I would go for it.

Just expressing my...veiled sentiments.

(A) I, IS, was the guy (a few years ago) who did 15 interviews in the TESOL Arabia Job Fair...quantity but not quality (on my part). Actually, I've picked up all my Gulf EFL jobs outside of TESOL Arabia. This is why I have found TESOL Arabia Job Fair unsuccessful so far. Most everyone has....
(1) ...an MA in TESOL.
(2) ...10-20 years Gulf EFL experience.
(3) ...learnt all the usual EFL job interview questions and has memorized spectacular answers.
(4) ...a passion for teaching EFL (or at least have a passion during the interview).

So, I need something that puts me ahead of the crowd. What have others done to put them themselves ahead of the crowd (serious answers only (e.g., dressing as a clown is not serious enough))?

(B) I am still waiting for that golden interview invitation email (Zayed was golden enough but I need more gold). But I plan to troop out to TESOL Arabia Job Fair again this year and see what are the pickings. Who has succesfully picked up a good EFL job at the Job Fair that they liked and stayed with?

Without seeing how you interview, I'd guess it's not your lack of qualfications since your resume/CV at least got you interviews. It's most likely something you're not doing during your interviews that keeps you from getting the job.

Do you ask questions at the end of your interviews? I don't mean the ones about benefits, housing, satellite tv, etc. But you should be asking teaching-related questions about the students, resources available to teachers, professional development, what top qualities they feel teachers at their school should possess, etc. Interviewers are impressed when you pull out a list of 6-7 questions for them; it shows you're prepared and are truly interested in the students' learning and in the position. Also, try to stay one step ahead of the interviewers. If they don't mention something you feel is vital, then it's up to you to bring it up. Be sure to use industry terminology to show you know your stuff. And lastly, don't forget to talk about your accomplishments as a teacher. Just don't brag!

Hello! Complete noob here, but I'd like to think my two cents are relevant!
When it comes to a job search, no matter where you go or what you do, the answer for most qualified individuals looking for better opportunities is the same: connections.
Not "climb over people to get up the ladder" connections, but legitimate, mutal, long-term connections in the business.

That's likely what sets people apart (but again I would have no clue)

Have you made key connections? Have you approached them for help or guidance? You can't expect to move up in your career without making connections!

--edit, in ideal noob form, I didn't realize this was a month old -__-
