Here no worries, I was a participant in 2003/04 so at least I experienced it once. I really really wanted it again though - but it serves me right for being a little naive thinking I'd be a cert for an interview.

From your experience, how long was the process from you applying to getting accepted with other companies? 2-3 months? I'm going to have to look at other options now. If I apply to Interac etc they prob won't let me start until August. I would have been OK waiting that long for JET, but now that doesn't look like it's gonna happen I wouldn't mind getting sorted asap, if I can find something decent that is...

Good luck whatever you end up doing!

Just wondering, did you get the location you wanted for JET?

I think I started 2 months before the application was due getting everything ready for JET. Then after that I saw there were other options so I started applying to other schools. Mainly I just went to Gaijin pot, Craigslist, and Ohayo sensei.

Well guess I'll see if I get my JET interview soon. Makes me feel kind of guilty since I put a lot of effort into my JET application and if I get the interview I may not even go if I go with something else.

And thanks Jar! You too.

Others may disagree but if you get accepted with JET, I say definitely take it. If you don't like it you can always get another job after a year in a location you prefer. JET is by far the best way to get into the country and make a decent wage.

I was bumped up from an alternate and I got my first choice: Fukuoka City.
From what I hear though, it's pot luck where you're placed.

Is location the be-all and end-all for you?

Are you going to turn the best entry level job in Japan down if you don't get what you want?

It's just normal job hunting procedure to go for more than one job at a time. This must be early in your job hunting life. Don't feel guilty about anything.

And, don't be upset with JET if you don't get the job. That's just life. Reevaluate what you did to apply, that's all.

If I do make it into JET I definitely wouldn't turn it down.

When I said feel guilty. I didn't mean for the company just that I may have ended up with something better in the long run. Esp since I put the most work into applying for JET in regards to anything else. Guilty probably wasn't the right word. And, yeah Glenski I know, didn't even cross my mind Smile
