I did some telephone English in France. It doesn't work, IMHO, with low-level students. It's better with high intermediate and advanced students.
Keep a journal of your topics, the students' errors, etc. Plan/talk about what you may talk about at the next phone call. Time your conversation in elements of 5-7 minutes, switching to another activity.
One student I had was painfully shy over the phone. I requested face-to-face classes. Again, she was painfully shy... so language learning for her was too risky (by requesting her to answer questions she thougth revealed too much of herself).
For the advanced students, telephone English increased their self-confidence a great deal. It was effective. |
