There were some very negative posts about MTC, but they have mysteriously disappeared. Hmm.. |
Would love to have seen them.
MTC was at the job fair at TESOL Arabia this past weekend. I didn't apply because I've heard the stories about the ridiculous long hours. However, I noticed MTC seemed to be interviewing quite a lot of people... |

I had an invite.....but didn't like the idea of having to pay my own way to Dubai just to have a chance to interview with them.
Don't employers know that when they send their folks to these conferences, many will be looking to jump ship? |

I haven't heard of employers in Oman paying to send teachers... Perhaps SQU?
ZU, UAEU and HCT in the UAE (no relation to the same name in Oman) used to pay part of the costs. Not sure if they do it anymore. And you were encouraged to attend and didn't need to use any leave or pay for a flight. (of course one could drive from Oman too)
Employer paying employees to attend is usually tied to the teacher having a presentation accepted.

In KSA, Saudi teachers get paid to attend conferences; expats are on their own dime. |

I have never had to pay. Employer always did in the past. Times are a changing....budgets are getting tighter. The trench diggers feel the impact while the fat cats continue raking it in.
Most teachers are there for the "tefltastic" seminars being offered. |

My last HOD in Oman wouldn't allow time off for TESOL Arabia in case teachers got jobs there! |

Only time will tell if this rumor is true. |
If true I know several teachers who will be very upset... |

This place sounds typical of EFL military contracts in the Gulf....human nature aka manure! |

one week notice is legal under the 3 month probation period but not after that period. Both parties have that right. I don't have sympathy for anyone planning a "runner" , I'm sure there are two sides to every story and I have my doubts that MTC is a truly horrible place to be.
Still, budgets are down all over and big pressure is on to scrimp and save so a lower enrollment could be one result. |
