Dear sheikh,
I must protest. We gringos don't speak bad - we speak badly.
(And, of course, it should be mentioned that Mexicans and Canadians are Los norteamericanos, too )

Yes, I know you speak badly. I was quoting my students. They say you speak bad. And they hate it when I refer to Americans as if citizens of the USA were the only inhabitants of the whole continent. |

We are all Americans- Mexicans, Canadians, USA'ians(!?!). Hell, even Puertoriquenos. It is a real linguistic problem to deal with the Statesians. I say, take down the walls and the borders and the hate. |

It's surely time for some fresh peeves. Heaven knows there's an unending supply around!!
Here's a contribution from one of the rising stars of the US Republican party:
Jindal: GOP must compete for every vote, reject identity politics, be more smart

Not to mention 'baited breath' (is that the same as worm breath??)..... |

I know its an old one for Pet Peeves, but it comes up so often!
There
Theyre
Their
How hard can it be to use them properly? Its often carelessness and not bothering, but sometimes I think its a genuine literacy issue with native speakers.
Ive seen the following a number of times: Bare in mind.... (empty-headed?) and ment (for meant)

People who think "etcetera" is part of the spoken language rather than a convention in writing. |
