Yes, it is but I have not been complaining about any unwanted political discussions. If you read, I was making a comment in regards to statements I made 5 months ago. I have not been making any complaints about this situation. If you would have read, I wrote in December that I am happy to be off to Asia. No political discussions here for me. The reason the sentence is in the present tense is because I still don't want to hear about Bush from everyone. Despite that, it does not mean that I have been bringing up this topic. I was just responding to twentynine who brought up a discussion that I thought was long dead. I should have let it die but I made the mistake of commenting about it and so the debate laggers on.

And I doubt anyone actually thought Bush would be a good president, especially the second time around. Democracy does not have the same meaning it once did in our country, but for those who did vote for him, the motivation was purely religious, monetary or both.

By the way, Twenty Nine, I did vote for Bush in both elections and neither religion nor money was the motivation.

I voted for him both times because I thought, and still do think, he's a good president!! Mr. Green

Okay, waiting for the firing sqaud...

Wow, this forum turns out to be a "political" one rather than answering the original question.

Before I came to Canada, I was working with German Engineers. Just make them aware that they should be sensitive to some subjects, such as politics, religion and sex.

Never wear too tight and too short clothes, sometimes it is even not accepted in business to show a bare shoulder (women) or bare toes.

They should be aware that if US people say "no problem" to a project, it has a different meaning.

Teamwork in the US has a different meaning, too. It is not the same as in Germany! The US employees can not have the German team atmosphere as their hirarchies are too strong - and they stick to it. So they should be sensitive to that.

That is about it, I can think of at the moment.

emerald75, I saw someone had viewed this thread. I am glad that you did not restart the flame throwing on this thread. As for me, I am going to try to return to Germany during the summer of 2008. I don't have time this summer, so I will see how Germany is in 2008.

That is the whole point!! The election was not in your country, so it really does not matter who you would vote for. Does it matter who I would have voted for in the last German (Schrder or Stoiber) election or the upcoming election in England?

P.S. I did not vote for Bush but it is not mystifying why people voted for Bush!! Maybe it shows that Europeans are as intolerant of other opinions as Bush!!!

This is an example of something American (and other) people shouldn't do whilst in Britain; it wasn't the upcoming election in England but was the upcoming election in the United Kingdom.

Referring to the whole island, and particularly the whole of the United Kingdom as England will piss off Welsh people, Scottish people and a large section of the community in Northern Ireland.

Nevertheless there are still Scotsmen who resent the 1707 Acts of Union, Welshmen who don't fancy the Saeson and well Northern Ireland... Crying or Very sad

Still you are right; Americans need to gain more knowledge on the subject...Americans are a weird and paradoxical lot, much like the country they inhabit... Wink
