Not really surprising, but interesting!

Sadism is a tendency to take pleasure in other people's pain or discomfort.

So, as opposed to cyberbullying, saying nasty things during an argument over politics or even making hateful comments that reflect the commenter's true feelings, trolls are offensive for the sheer enjoyment of it. Or, in Internet parlance, "for the lulz."

"If an unfortunate person falls into their trap, trolling intensifies for further, merciless amusement. This is why novice Internet users are routinely admonished, 'Do not feed the trolls!'." |

If only this could happen to all the trolls.
Curtis Woodhouse, the former footballer turned light-welterweight boxer, has finally taken matters into his own hands. After being subjected to a persistent stream of abuse by an anonymous Twitter user going by the name of @Jimmyob88, he decided to short-circuit the disjunction between the real and virtual worlds.
He offered a £1,000 reward to anybody who could give him @Jimmyob88's identity and address. Then he turned up, threatening to "give him a right pasting".
