What does this tell you about the lack of faith/trust that the recruiters have in the teaching staff at the MOM colleges.........so back we all come from vacation-some of us with empty bank accounts, and everyone has to complete a bullshit 'joining report' before they will receive their August salary.....welcome back teaching staff! |

If that's all they require, what's the big deal? Just complete the thing. |

If you've already earned the money they should give it to you.
Besides, you can only do TATI's tasks when TATI lets you. For weeks they were telling me to that it was imperative to meet their "pro" at the airport so I could cancel my visa. "Three hours before your flight, at the coffee shop," they kept telling me, "three hours before your flight at the coffee shop." For They must have emailed me six times and called twice to tell me that.
Needless to say, the day I leave, I'm where they wanted me three hours before my flight.
He never showed... |

I'm still waiting for a job offer from TATI
Either they ignore you or offer you an interview in the middle of the semester when one has already taken up a position with another company |

This isn't that unusual. Just fill the stupid thing in and give it to them.
For its first years at SQU - at least 7+ - everyone would be removed from their system when we left for the summer... and then had to be re-entered when we came back. That always meant a 2-3 month lag to get any pay. But, everyone knew and prepared. Every employer has its quirks, even the direct hires.

This too is sadly typical. I had this happen in my last job in the Gulf. I got there and checked in. The driver was on the phone and said that the "fixer" was places unknown, so the Dean (!!) was coming to cancel the visa. They gave the last call for the flight and I just went through the lines and went down to the plane. Then after I arrived back home, I mailed them the labor card so that they could cancel it.
It's always something... but the checks always cleared.

The report was completed and faxed to them straight away....so they know that I am back-however, the salary still hasn't been transferred....and I, like many other returnees, am short of cash after a financial blowout of a vacation. |

Supposedly if they don't get the card back, they can't hire another expat worker to replace you. Of course, rules like this depend on their wasta levels... and how long it takes for the Ministry to forgive it.
This is the reason that they put so much pressure on reminding someone to go to the airport early to give them time to get it... but doesn't overcome any particular fixer's tendency to get easily diverted.

It's really an oh-so-you-elected-to-come-back-instead-of-quit form. The MOM colleges have such atrocious turnover, they simply assume you will not be returning when you leave for summer break. That is the job everyone should aspire to. High turnover among those who've gone there before me. Sign me up today.
The guy no-showed at the airport because he didn't need to meet you after all. Someone quit or did a runner or was fired just before you got to MIA and he got what he wanted. It would have been nice if he would have called you to let you know instead of standing you up. But this is the ME, where white faces are looked upon as disposible commission units who are expected to be obedient for a very short time. |

I was told that if a teacher did a runner or the card wasn't returned for whatever reason then the sponsor had to report it to the ROP. The sponsor would then have to wait six months for it to be declared cancelled and therefore would be one worker down during that time. No big deal for the Ministries but for the recruiters a loss of income. |

Quite clearly the recruiters don't give a toss about the teachers well-being, I've always known that-but up until now I've always been able to say, about my recruiting company, 'well at least they pay on time...' they don't even have the decency to answer my emails right now. If the situation continues into next week I'm going to piss them off by asking the college HRD to contact them about non-payment of salary. |

Companies are now reporting employees as "absconded" and put a relevant notice into the local newspaper. It then allows them to get a new visa immediately.
If you were unlawfully dismissed, you have to beat them to lodging your complaint or you have no chance whatsoever to go to court. Even if you go to court, proceedings can drag on for 9 months or more without guarantee that you will get anything at all in the end.

Threaten the recruiter that you will lodge a complaint with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), that should get them scared and kick them into action. |
