Have we ever asked/answered this one? Could be interesting.
I'm in an area where freshwater fish is readily available and extremely good:-)
Trout and pike, grilled vegetables, glass of wine - ideal. |

Dear John
We have those too, but they are faux. And can be quite foul, sadly.
Reckon your 'real thing' is far better!
best,

I'm currently in the American Southwest, so after years of living in the Caribbean, I enjoy good Mexican food and, especially, guacamole.
While living in the Bahamas, my favorite dinner was fried chicken with peas and rice, conch fritters, and mac and cheese.
While living in the Dominican Republic, it was boiled dumplings and codfish. |

Beijing--I'm on a jiaozi kick at the moment, doesn't matter what the filling is as long as the dough is thick and chewy, Northern style.
Warm regards,

Grilled fish, grilled with pomegranate sauce and lemon and served with araq (ouzo). It's nice to go out in the mountains and grill it over an open fire. |

Savchenko is dying of her hunger strike in Putin's jail, and you all consider this topic about favorite foods to be "current events?" Shame on you!
"[Savchenko], who Putin is now holding hostage in Moscow on fabricated charges, along with many other Ukrainians. Senator [McCain], you were almost exactly in her shoes in Vietnam. You know what she is going through. Putin has subjected her to psychiatric torture, refuses to recognize her diplomatic immunity, refuses to allow her to be examined by a Ukrainian physician, and denies he agreed to release her at Minsk."

Shame on us? Why, exactly? Because of a link which leads to horrendously confused political ramblings?
But I suppose we should follow the precedent of not eating food in sympathy with political prisoners held illegally, in places like, oh, I dunno, an obscure American base in Cuba, say... |

Well this is the last remark I will have because I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I would rather suggest that you leave Russia, which is where you seem to be. I seriously doubt that you are doing anything there to aid the opposition, and you'd probably be killed if you did. You probably just talk about food to your students. |

I am indeed in Russia, the last outpost of free speech in the world. No extraordinary renditions, no massive 'prism' network monitoring everything you say and do, no 'PC brigade gone mad'. All manner of topics are on the table with Russian students - possibly more than in other countries in the world. Usually best not to focus a lesson on them, though, but for sound EFL reasons, not political constraints.
Food is a very political topic here at the moment, with EU sanctions leading to severe restrictions on available imports. I am in more potential danger of starving to death than being assassinated. Though many have tried before, my survival skills being what they are... reflexes of a cat!
All hungry now! Need to nosh... What shall I have? Mmmmmmhhhh!
