As Dave's members are scattered across the globe, many of us in places where Christmas isn't, maybe it would be interesting to hear what people are doing on the days this year.
I'm feeling very lucky to have holidays from work, Christmas markets on the cobblestones, and plenty of hot spiced wine - though it's unseasonably warm (I happen to be a genuine fan of winter)!
Our students have mostly survived final exams, are mostly safely home in their own countries with family, and mostly enjoying Christmas either now or on 7 January.
Wishing everyone here a happy holiday (if you get one) or at least especially pleasant workdays! And all the best in 2016. |

I'm in Sudan where Christmas is completely non-existent. I went to the shop and the only treats I could find were a can of non-alcoholic beer, a packet of shortbread and some coffee flavoured sweets.

That's fair enough - I don't assume that most Dave-ers are necessarily celebrants regardless of their current location  |

It's good in that it's a holiday time where families can meet up*, but I've seen too many people in the UK get stressed or spend countless £££ buying unappreciated presents, or wives (usually) who try their best in the kitchen but can't cope with a 20lb turkey and feel they've let everyone down.
I'm no Scrooge. My own mother, for example, received a batik painting of an elephant tastefully crafted (and signed) by yours truly. In between wasting time posting here, I've become adept at this batik and am now available for parties, etc.
* It's a thread for another day, but I've always winced at TEFLers who say how important their students are but then say they haven't seen their parents for years. You only get one set of parents and will never regret spending time with them, no matter how annoying they are now. |

| Eating Indonesian Curry, going to Starbucks the only place open on Christmas except for Dunkin Donuts and watching a little 6 year old open his gifts which he will be waking early to see. |

Wife is going to roast a leg of lamb and some potatoes. Little guy is only one year, so no gifts. Not a tradition I am very fond of due to my family background.
A nice meal does enough I think. |

I am volunteering as I do every year in London to work with the homeless in a CRISIS centre.
We will be serving a turkey lunch, or curry, as well as the usual mince pies and cake. No KFC though !! |

Where was this?
I quite like Starbucks as you know what you're getting, i.e. overpriced but consistent coffee. How about they make at least a token effort with the food? What's it to be today? The microwaved croissant looks nice or how about a tuna wrap which was there last Tuesday?
People like me who are daft enough to pay £3 for a coffee occasionally would probably pay the same for a cheese sandwich if it had some taste and wasn't microwaved. The only times I've eaten in Starbucks was when I'd brought in outside food. |

To this poster both KFC and Starbucks are abominations created by The Tempter to lead the righteous from the True Path.
He is fortunate in that on the island to which he has retreated none of those franchises have found as much as a toehold !
