I see most ads for the UAE seem to be for subject teachers, although I never see any for my subject, it's always maths, physics or English language teachers. Where are all the EFL posts gone? Do they even have any? |

They exist. However, your diploma in piano performance and unrelated PGCE won't cut it.
You'll need a:- teaching license/certificate, BA or MA, and teaching experience (all specific to TESOL or primary/secondary school education) to teach in a private, international school; or
- TEFL-related MA + several years of tertiary experience (at minimum) to teach in a university foundation year program. |

so it will have to be music posts only then and secondary education. there must be EFL jobs going in language schools, petrol companies etc though rather than just primary, secondary and higher education institutes, no? |

ADEC cancelled a scheduled interview for a maths teacher position a few months back in the UK, because my PGCE wasn't in maths I believe. In the UK however, I have taught maths at some schools in the past as I have an A level in it. So, they only go for degree related qualifications from my one-off experience. |

Language schools in the UAE have qualified, BA-holding Emiratis and resident expats to choose from. Oil companies require at least a BA and won't give your music qualifications a second look. Plus, if you haven't noticed, petrol-related hirings have slowed down.
You're trying to put lipstick on a camel. Instead of scrambling for ways to peddle your unrelated diploma for jobs that require a BA or MA, go back to university and complete a bona fide, relevant bachelor's degree. The pool of TEFL opportunities worldwide for those without a BA is shrinking. |

I said should I do a BA to the agent who put me in touch with a Saudi employer but she said they were happy with the qualifications I've got. So, I don't know now. I can't spare the time and effort and anyway I can't do a BA in English as you'd need an A level in English first to qualify at uni. |

I can't speak to ALL the EFL jobs in (the) UAE.
But, if you qualified "EFL jobs" with "good" or "worthwhile", the answer would be: Either down the drain or fast on the way there. |

'can't spare the time and effort'....no wonder with all the applications in various destinations all over the planet. |

they don't need 'upgrading'. I have received a reply from a UAE international school about an application for a music post I made. They've appointed a teacher now but they responded to give me details of their next music vacancies. I don't need upgrading.
And as far as TEFLing is concerned in the ME, NO ONE knows what the embassy is going to say about my graduate diploma if I put an application for a work visa in. I don't want to spend £600 preparing for one though if they're not going to allow it just cos of this particular issues with recognising UK qualifications. So, it may be that I get a job on a Business visa like I already did once. Is this ok for everyone now? |

If you actually took this supposed upcoming 'job' teaching music and stopped posting in umpteen country forae about umpteen similarly unlikely 'job offers,' it would be better than OK.
But we all know that's not going to happen! |

Seriously, dude. No one here cares about the status of your diploma, job applications, whatever. You're allegedly an adult and don't need our permission or blessings. However, I suggest you stop posting about your trials and tribulations; recruiters and employers are known to view these forums and will recognize your posts including your comments about bogus degrees as well as your arrest for shoving a police officer and your DWI. Not to mention you've been fired from Berlitz and a Saudi job. |

Don't forget the inquiries about how to go 'on the dole' in foreign countries.
Highly desirable colleague or employee - NOT. |

That's a bit rude isn't it? No one cares? yes they do because I have had PMs from people trying to help. And thanks, but I do NOT have a bogus degree. You've got your BA stuck up you other end if you ask me!
And asking about the dole in Italy was a legitimate question since I would not have been working in July and August for Berlitz and I would need to have income support as it's called in the UK to survive for those two months, therefore I don't understand why you're calling me a (NOT) highly desirable colleague. It's normal for UK people to go on the dole if they don't have a job. Even people with PHDs go on the dole if they're out of work. So why do you keep hijacking my posts about things you have no idea about.
And yes I am a highly desirable colleague and I have had a response from the MD of Berlitz about my grievance. |
