Have the salaries gone down for Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic?
I have been offered SAR 13500/month
Thought this was quite low.

How much were you expecting? Salary is based on your qualifications. And yes, salaries overall have been declining. |

Well in the past salaries were as high as USD 72,000/yr. |

it would really help to know your qualifications and experience, Raul739. I've also heard similar figures for salaries at SESP. According to their ad:
Quote: |
SKILLS
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree required with a Master's Degree preferred in linguistics, ESL, EFL or similar discipline
CELTA, DELTA, TEFL and/or TOEFL qualification required
Minimum of five years fulltime postgraduate teaching experience in an ESL/ESP and Technical Bridging/Foundation Studies context
Proven experience and demonstrated ability to teach ESL and ESP
Proven teaching experience in the Middle East in general and Saudi Arabia in particular preferred
Solid ESL pedagogy with sound classroom management skills required

I guess if your candidacy matches this job description, their salaries have dropped quite a bit. |

Nationality is also a factor. Filipinos earn less than US citizens. |

I was told by an agent that they have cut the salary by 60% |

I was offered 30, 540 SARs a month for a job with SESP in Riyadh last year.
Salaries have indeed gone through the floor and they are really struggling to get qualified staff nowadays.

That is correct. Salary was at 72K. Looks like the trend continues for TEFLtastic jobs in Saudi.
For 43,200 USD, I'd rather live in a civilized country.
This of course is all due to the lost oil revenue. No worries. It's just English after all. |

So correct is the 13.5k, or the 30k Balzac figure? When Amideast managed things a couple years back (still are?), $72k + expenses was the deal. The workload isn't too bad, but time off is low. |

In Year 1 of this program, ALL the teachers made 25,000 SAR per month....
This includes ALL the English teachers and ALL the TB group (Technical Bridging group) teachers....
(I worked there for Year 1 only....)
So, yes, it sounds like they've cut the salaries to nearly nothing.... |

I would be surprised if you're offered anything better, given the Saudi situation. The Saudi pork barrel is thru. The salary is worth considering. Get in for a couple of years and get out. Make sure that after a few months you pressure them for written references. Pressure them for another set of references several months towards the end of your stay. Don't depend on them to be reasonable concerning any good work put out by yourself for the Polytechnic. |

The figures quoted (even the high end ones) are inclusive of accommodation which you need to sort out yourself. Time off is not good and I know of a few who were looking to leave because of that. |

It is worth considering if you have NO other options. |

Gotten to the point where teachers are stealing from other teachers. HR
attempts to ignore Saudi law in terms of medical benefits, and when staff
goes to the proper government agency (and wins) SESP retaliates.
PM me if you want details.. |

They were much higher for some teachers 2 years ago. |
