I taught at KSA at PMU for a year and was very sorry I left. AFTER I got home (USA). I'd like to go back but hate the thought of getting nixed bec of my age!! No! I'm NOT going to put my age down here, thank you very much. It has NOT affected my teaching I can assure you! |

Whether age affects your teaching is irrelevant.
These countries have every right to make their own laws and your agreement with them doesn't matter.
Basically if you are over 60, your chances are slim and none. Probably even true if you are over 55. All you can do is apply and see what happens. Not getting any firm offers means that it is time to look elsewhere.

It can happen . I know a guy who is 68, currently doing visa processing in the States.
He does have a lot of experience in the right area though. So there's no definitive yes or no. I'm guessing that he would be in a very small minority. |

He would come under that category of "slim" (extensive directly related particular experience - and likely knows the right people)

It also depends on the visa type. Companies are able to dodge the age restriction by using business/work visit visas. |

Yes, there are age restrictions.
You have to be at least 27 years old.
Under 27 years, they really can't handle the isolation, the culture shock etc... |

Remember reading of one formerly saudi based american EFLer in his twenties, who had a website where he listed a budget of monthly expenses in the kingdom, and on the list was a bottle of black label. Do these younger fellows give any thought to the consequences if found with that in a cupboard in their flat? |

Possessing alcohol will not get you into trouble. Manufacturing and selling it will. And the high jinks that some get up to after consuming it. |

For sure, a degree of caution is needed.
I'd put it another way. Don't be in possession of alcohol in the wrong place, because that will get you on trouble.
Anyone involved in the manufacture or sale of alcohol, should be living in a very secure place imo.
It only takes one police check...... |

I lived in KSA as a drunk and when sober.
Sober is easier. |

No one here can give you a definitive answer, especially since you don't state your age or anything about your background and teaching interests. All you can do is apply.
But if you're concerned your age is likely to get you rejected, then it's time for you to look elsewhere to countries where you can work. If finances aren't an issue, the Peace Corps doesn't have an upper age limit. There's maybe the Marshall Islands. And of course, there are opportunities to teach online. |

sorry, this is a new computer for me.....etc. etc. ,
Anyway, 40 is a fairly "normal" retirement age in the ME (Turkey, etc.) but when "my" girls scored among the very highest in their age/level group, a lot of students from other classes tried to "get into" our class even though we had NO parties and such.....! So it goes.....! |

I have never heard of such a thing as the age of 40 for retirement anywhere in the ME. In fact, in both Egypt and the Gulf countries, most of the university teachers are 40 before they even get there. LOL That is probably because the jobs require an MA to start.
Was that a typo?

No, "40" was NOT a typo! When a student in my (Turkish) sclass responded to "What do you do?" and she responded that she "was "retired", I was surprised and asked her how she cld be retired when she looked so young. She replied that she was 40 and that most people retired at 40! Which I suppose answered the question as to why all those "youngish" -looking men were hanging out in the coffee shops in the middle of the day. Made room for all the young people out looking for jobs (and OFF the streets!). Perhaps though it has since changed. |
